How I Price Tattoos: What to Expect

3 flash art examples with sizing guide, hands touching fingertips with nature elements and different floral butterflies.

I price by piece, not by hourly rate. When you request a tattoo, I’ll give you a flat quote range based on size, style, placement, and estimated time to tattoo.

This way, you know roughly what to expect with tattoo pricing ahead of time, without having to watch the clock during your appointment.

Factors that influence a quote:

  • Custom Artwork – Designs drawn specifically for you usually cost a bit more than flash.

  • Placement – Areas other than arms and legs (like ribs, hands, feet, or neck) can increase the price because they tend to take longer to do, may be more challenging to sit through or require extra materials, or may be more likely to need touch ups. One free touch up is always included in the price.

  • Colour Ink – Colour pieces involve extra time and more materials compared to black and grey.

  • Large Scale or Multi-Session Work – Bigger projects are quoted accordingly and may require multiple appointments.

Minimum pricing starts at $200 for flash and $250–300 for custom designs at a minimum size of around 3x3 inches. I generally don't take on anything smaller unless it's part of a larger tattoo session.

On average, most one session flash pieces fall in the $400–800 range. Some designs have a recommended minimum size (to maintain detail and readability), although you're welcome to go bigger. Occasionally there’s an ideal placement suggestion, but that's generally pretty flexible.

Deposits are required to secure your appointment — you can find full deposit information in the FAQ section.

If you’re working with a set budget, feel free to let me know when booking. I’ll do my best to suggest options that fit your needs without compromising the quality of your tattoo.
